Deep Tissue Massage uses slow, sustained pressure and deep strokes to reach the inner layers of muscles and connective tissue. This therapeutic treatment helps release tension, ease stiffness, and restore mobility — all at We Are Wellness in Headingley, Leeds.
Deep Tissue Massage is similar to Swedish massage, but uses deeper pressure to release chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones, and joints).
What to Expect
Sessions usually begin with lighter pressure to warm and prepare the muscles.
Deeper techniques are then applied, such as:
Stripping – slow, deep gliding pressure along the length of the muscle fibres using the elbow, forearm, knuckles, or thumbs.
Friction – pressure applied across the grain of the muscle to release adhesions and realign tissue fibres.
Therapists may use their fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms throughout the treatment.
You may be asked to breathe deeply to help release tension in specific areas.
Aftercare
It’s common to feel some stiffness or soreness after treatment, which usually subsides within a day or so. Drink plenty of water to help flush out metabolic waste from the tissues. If you experience ongoing discomfort or pain, contact your massage therapist.
