Introduction to Trauma Release Exercises

Trauma Release Exercises (TRE®) is a gentle, body-based practice designed to help release deep tension, stress and stored trauma from the body. Rather than talking through experiences, TRE® works with the body’s natural reflexes, allowing it to discharge stress in a safe, controlled and organic way.

This practice supports the nervous system to move out of survival mode and into a state of balance, regulation and ease.

A Body-Led Approach to Release

Stress, trauma and emotional overwhelm can become held in the body over time, often without us realising. TRE® uses a series of simple, gentle exercises to activate a natural neurogenic tremor — the body’s built-in mechanism for releasing excess tension.

These tremors are not forced; they arise naturally and are guided carefully, allowing the body to let go at its own pace.

What to Expect

A TRE® session is calm, supportive and empowering. You’ll be guided through gentle movements that prepare the body to release tension safely. Once tremoring begins, you are encouraged to remain present and in control, with the option to stop or adjust at any time.

Sessions focus on:

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Releasing physical and emotional tension

  • Building safety and awareness in the body

  • Supporting resilience and self-regulation

Over time, many people find TRE® helps them feel calmer, more grounded and more connected to themselves.

Gentle Support for the Nervous System

TRE® is often described as deeply relaxing and grounding. By supporting the parasympathetic (rest and restore) response, the practice can help ease chronic stress patterns and support emotional balance.

The emphasis is always on choice, safety and self-awareness, making TRE® a powerful yet gentle tool for wellbeing.
